PM Modi Proposes ‘One State, One Global Destination’ to Boost Investment at NITI Aayog Meet

New Delhi – In a visionary address at the eighth Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog held on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed a bold new strategy — ‘One State, One Global Destination’ — aiming to catapult India’s states onto the global investment and tourism map. The initiative seeks to transform each state into a unique economic and cultural hub tailored for international recognition.

Speaking at Vigyan Bhawan to Chief Ministers, Lt. Governors, and senior officials from across the country, PM Modi emphasized the need to harness India’s diverse strengths in a focused and competitive manner. “Every state has something unique to offer — be it in tourism, manufacturing, culture, or innovation. By branding each state around a singular global identity, we can unlock immense investment and employment opportunities,” Modi said.

The idea echoes the successful ‘One District, One Product’ model implemented in several states, especially Uttar Pradesh, but now takes it to a national level with a global focus. The PM urged states to carve out a niche sector — such as textiles in Tamil Nadu, wellness tourism in Kerala, or IT in Karnataka — and develop it as a globally recognized destination.

The proposal is not merely symbolic. PM Modi announced that the Central Government, through NITI Aayog and Invest India, will work with state governments to craft sectoral branding, investment facilitation, and export strategies. This would include public-private partnerships, international outreach campaigns, and infrastructure support.

“This is not about competition but about specialization,” said Modi, clarifying that the goal was cooperative federalism in action — leveraging diversity for national strength. He added that this move is a stepping stone towards the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by its 100th year of independence.

Industry leaders and policy experts welcomed the idea, calling it a practical approach to decentralizing growth. Dr. Arvind Panagariya, former NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman, tweeted, “Brilliant move. ‘One State, One Global Destination’ aligns state capabilities with global opportunities. It’s strategic thinking at its best.”

However, some opposition leaders raised concerns over the feasibility of implementation without clarity on funding and coordination mechanisms. “It’s a promising slogan, but we need structural reforms to back it up,” said a senior Congress leader.

The meeting also discussed progress on Gati Shakti infrastructure projects, education and skilling reforms, and energy transition. But Modi’s ‘One State’ proposal dominated headlines, offering a fresh paradigm for India’s cooperative federalism and economic diplomacy.

As India navigates a post-pandemic global economy and positions itself as a manufacturing and services hub, the pitch for ‘One State, One Global Destination’ could become a defining feature of its 21st-century development story.
