Neeraj Chopra Finishes 2nd Behind Julian Weber at Poland Javelin Event, Continues 4-Year Podium Streak
Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra secured second place behind Germany’s Julian Weber at the 2025 Poland Athletics Grand Prix, extending his remarkable 4-year podium streak.

Warsaw, May 24, 2025 — Reigning Olympic champion and India’s javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra delivered yet another podium-worthy performance, finishing second at the Poland Athletics Grand Prix 2025, held in Silesia. Chopra registered a season-best throw of 85.45 meters, narrowly missing the top spot, which went to Germany’s Julian Weber, who clinched gold with a commanding throw of 86.78 meters.
Despite not taking the gold, the 27-year-old Chopra continued his remarkable streak of podium finishes, maintaining an unbroken run that began in 2021. His consistency on the global stage further cements his reputation as one of the most formidable javelin throwers in contemporary athletics.
Speaking after the event, Chopra expressed satisfaction with his performance but acknowledged the challenge posed by his German rival. “Julian was outstanding today. I’m happy with my throw, but I always aim for more. The season is long, and I’ll build on this,” said Chopra, who is eyeing strong performances in the upcoming Diamond League events and the Paris World Championships.
Julian Weber, who has been Chopra’s consistent competitor over the years, praised the Indian athlete’s resilience. “Neeraj pushes all of us to be better. It’s always a great competition when he’s on the field,” said the 30-year-old German, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the world.
The third place in the event was secured by Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, with a best throw of 83.10 meters, completing an elite lineup of some of the best javelin talents in the world.
Chopra’s silver comes at a crucial juncture, just months before the World Athletics Championships in Paris and a year ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia. His focus remains on staying injury-free and maintaining form through a tightly packed athletic calendar.
Back home in India, Chopra’s performance drew praise from fans and sports officials alike. The Athletics Federation of India tweeted, “Neeraj does it again! Another podium finish for our golden boy. Congratulations on keeping the streak alive!”
Having already made history as the first Indian to win an Olympic gold in athletics, Chopra continues to inspire a generation of young Indian athletes. His success has not only elevated javelin throwing in India but also brought global attention to the country’s athletic capabilities.
As the javelin season heats up, all eyes will remain on Chopra, who has repeatedly proven that consistency, dedication, and fierce competitiveness are the hallmarks of a true champion.
