A massive fire erupted early Monday morning at the Richland Compound in Bhiwandi's Vadpe area of Thane district, Maharashtra, engulfing at least 22 warehouses. The blaze, which began around 3:00 AM, was brought under control by 9:00 AM through the efforts of multiple fire tenders from Bhiwandi and Kalyan .
The affected godowns stored a variety of goods, including chemicals, petroleum products, printing machines, electronic items, health supplements, cosmetics, garments, footwear, and mandap decoration materials. The presence of flammable substances intensified the fire, producing thick black smoke and a strong odor that was noticeable from several kilometers away .
According to Mahesh Patil, a fire official from the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC), there have been no reported casualties. Cooling operations are currently underway to prevent any potential reignition .
