Major Fire at Link Square Mall in Bandra West Extinguished After Nearly 22 Hours

Mumbai, April 30, 2025:
A major fire broke out in the basement of Link Square Mall on Linking Road in Bandra West at approximately 4:10 am on Tuesday, prompting an intensive operation by Mumbai Fire Brigade and other emergency services. The blaze was finally extinguished by 1:41 am on Wednesday, after nearly 22 hours of continuous firefighting efforts.

According to civic and fire department officials, the fire originated in the mall’s basement area, which is believed to be used for storage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Officials confirmed that the mall was either closed or sparsely occupied at the time of the blaze, which helped in ensuring everyone's safety.

More than a dozen fire engines, along with water tankers and emergency response teams, were deployed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to upper floors. Dense smoke and difficult access to the basement complicated the operation, requiring additional reinforcements and extended working hours.

While the fire was confined to the basement, precautionary measures were taken to evacuate nearby structures and prevent further risk. Traffic movement on Linking Road was affected temporarily due to emergency vehicles stationed in the vicinity.

Civic authorities and the police have launched a probe to determine whether there were any violations of fire safety norms. Officials also indicated that damage assessments are underway to quantify the losses.

The Link Square Mall is a prominent commercial hub in Bandra West, housing several retail outlets, eateries, and offices. Fire audits and inspections of similar commercial establishments across the city are likely to intensify following the incident.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has urged all property owners and commercial establishments to ensure compliance with fire safety protocols, including maintaining functional fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and clear evacuation paths.
