Mumbai, April 27 — A tragic road accident shook Prabhadevi in Mumbai on Saturday when a 21-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a bus. The police have booked the bus driver for negligent driving, and an investigation is currently underway.
The accident took place early in the morning around 8:30 AM near a busy junction in Prabhadevi, a popular commercial and residential area in South Mumbai. According to eyewitnesses, the young man, identified as Aarav Mehta, was crossing the road when the bus approached at a high speed. Despite efforts to avoid the collision, the bus struck him, causing serious injuries.
Passersby rushed to Aarav’s aid and called an ambulance. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, despite the doctors' best efforts, Aarav was declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries and internal bleeding.
The incident created panic among locals and commuters, many of whom criticized the reckless driving habits of public transport drivers. Several residents gathered at the spot demanding stricter traffic control measures in the area.
The police quickly arrived at the scene and took the driver into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have been speeding and failed to notice Aarav crossing at the zebra line. Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Pawar from the Dadar Police Station said, “We have booked the bus driver for negligence. We are recording statements of eyewitnesses and checking CCTV footage from the nearby cameras to understand exactly how the accident happened.”
Aarav’s family, devastated by the news, said he had recently started working at a private company and had big dreams for his future. "He had just begun his career journey. We can’t believe he is gone," said his grieving father.
