Rohit Sharma Meets Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Sparking Political Entry Speculations

May 14, 2025 — Indian cricket stalwart Rohit Sharma's recent meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set social media abuzz, with fans and commentators speculating about a possible foray into politics.

The meeting took place at the Chief Minister's official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai, shortly after Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. Fadnavis shared images of their interaction on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:

"It was great to welcome, meet and interact with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence Varsha. I extended my best wishes to him on his retirement from Test cricket and for continued success in the next chapter of his journey!" 

While the meeting was officially described as a courtesy call to honor Sharma's illustrious cricketing career, the timing and public nature of the interaction have led to widespread speculation. Fans flooded social media platforms with theories about Sharma's potential entry into politics, with some suggesting he might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sharma, who debuted in Test cricket in 2013, concluded his career with 4,301 runs in 67 matches, including 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His highest score of 212 came against South Africa in 2019. Notably, he captained India in the 2023 World Test Championship final and led the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. 

Despite the swirling rumors, neither Sharma nor Fadnavis has commented on any political aspirations. As of now, Sharma continues to play in the One Day International (ODI) format and represents the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

Whether this meeting signifies a new chapter in Sharma's life beyond cricket remains to be seen. For now, it serves as a testament to his significant contributions to Indian sports and the high regard in which he is held by political leaders.
