As part of his ongoing tour of the United States, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the William B Morgan Large Cavitation Channel (LCC) at the Naval Surface Warfare Centre (NSWC) in Memphis, Tennessee. The LCC, recognized as one of the world’s largest and most advanced water tunnel facilities, is used for testing submarines, torpedoes, naval surface ships, and propellers. During his visit, Shri Rajnath Singh was briefed on the facility’s operations and witnessed a live tunnel experiment.

Accompanied by key Indian officials, including the Indian Ambassador to the U.S. and the Director General of Naval Operations, Shri Rajnath Singh engaged in discussions with U.S. counterparts, including the Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy for Policy and NSWC's Commander and Technical Director. The talks focused on a proposal to establish a similar facility in India to support indigenous design and development of naval technologies, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between India and the U.S.

Significant Development: India-U.S. Collaboration Moves Forward

Following the visit, the Defence Ministry confirmed that substantial progress has been made in the discussions, with both sides expressing strong commitment to advancing the project. A joint working group has been proposed to oversee the feasibility studies and technical assessments required to set up the facility in India. This development marks a critical step towards enhancing India's self-reliance in defense technology, aligning with the broader 'Make in India' initiative. The proposed facility is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s naval capabilities and fostering deeper defense collaboration between the two nations.
